David Lee comes from a very extensive Tejano Music background. David Lee’s father, E.P. Rodriquez, toured and recorded with many Tejano legends such as Little Joe, Johnny Hernandez, Carlos Miranda, El Charro Negro Bobby Butler, Sunny Ozuna, and countless others. At the age of 13, David Lee recorded bass for his Dad’s band which the recordings charted on Ben Gonzales’s Countdown USA and has been an active musician since.
David Lee played with many area bands with his Dad and his brother till his dad formed the group, Algo Simple. The band performed/toured together for 14 years, releasing 2 cd’s before disbandment. David Lee then began performing bass with various bands throughout Texas, Tennessee and New Mexico. Then in 2018, Gilbert Velasquez reached out to David Lee and encouraged him to return back to the studio and work on a new cd. That cd would be David Lee’s Solo Debut entitled “Asi Me Enseñaron”, landing him a contract with VMB Music Group, and earning him a Latin Grammy nomination in 2019.
David Lee released “Mi Vida” which debuted at #15 on the iTunes Latin charts and has spawned three #1 hits on many Tejano charts. David Lee released his 3rd album “III” in May 2026.
Most Recently, David Lee was selected by a group of peers and invited to join the Recording Academy’s Class of 2025, a prestigious honor that only comes to a select few in the music industry. David Lee accepted the invitation.
David Lee has recorded bass tracks for artists: The Latin Breed, Tortilla Factory, Joe Posada, David Marez, Adalberto, Rebecca Valadez, Aisha, Marcos Orozco, Patsy Torres, Tristan Ramos. Outside of working with Velasquez, David Lee has also recorded bass tracks for Jerry Lopez and Native American Actor/Blues Artist Gary Farmer.
